New Hood Scoop - Eliminate Blinding Reflections

I thought I'd share what I did. I had my detailer install a PPF over that blind spot. He masked-off the hood and cut the material to fit. Then let it set under the heat lamps to cure. He charged $150, which I thought was a fair price.

Added some Matte PPF to the scoop, yet still wanted some detail to the overall look.

had some.of the edges pulled back in the cut profile, then played with emblem areas to open them up. I wanted a nice gloss outline and not just a "wrapped look"...not bad for a first guess, and now I could really dial it in...but very happy with the looks and lack of glare.

So... I have a 2022 with the hood scoop. Yes, I have the chipping around the corners like everyone else... but... my biggest issue is when the sun is behind me, I get an awful blinding reflection. So my solution was to cut my own matte black vinyl to cover the shiny black. I am pleased with my first attempt, but might alter my cut file depending on how this one works.

EDIt: I saw some on eBay for $35 so decided to do myself for less than $1. (I have a vinyl cutter at my shop)

Did you know the chipping around the hood scoop can be covered under warranty from GM? Not sure if it is limited to miles but mine got repainted for free. Added a spacer to keep it from happening again. Check your local dealer about it.

If anyone wants a set, i could do for cost (of the vinyl) plus shipping. Vinyl cost is about $1.75 and postage would be whatever USPS charges... I am not sure how long my vinyl will last in the elements, but for the cost, it will be easy to replace.
im in texas, most def needed and holy hell it is blinding. looks great but man that should have been though thru

That is such a great idea! Why didn’t I think of that? I will be following your lead mlakey130. Thanks for that!

Definitely interested. Have you considered patterned vinyl similar to the link below?

I bought a small roll Xpel stealth ppf, used masking tape to create a template, and put that on the back side of the scoop, it works awesome to knock down the glare. I would highly recommend it.

You can order a piece precut for the whole cowl but that’s a lot more expensive and difficult to install than just a strip on the backside.

Decals won't last, you need a better protective film.
Outdoor rated vinyl has a rated service life of 5-7 years for most "regular" grade stuff. It's significantly longer if you garage your vehicle.

What did that run you to have it painted. I am interested in either having it wrapped or painted matte/satin black.
