Lifter issues resolved?

I have a ‘22 6.2 refresh with 18k now. No issues other than a few minor electronics gremlins (although I swear the engine smells like hot coolant after driving as of late), but every time I turn around I see horror stories about lifter issues - one ‘24 today with 800 miles.
If it’s truly that common of a problem, why would’t NHTSA have pushed for a recall?
You must be in Trail Boss Nation, saw the same thing.

NHTSA recalls are safety related. Since these broken engines can hobble home, its not a safety matter:(

My lifters just went on my 2019 this weekend, just under 81k miles. I had the extended warranty till 75k, should have made it the 100k. So that’s my advice…. Get the extended till at least 100k. Or more if you plan on running the truck long. Other than that, my truck has been great to me.
Bank 1 went bad in my '21 6.2 in December at 29,000 miles. I was 150 miles from home, but somehow managed to be passing a Chevy dealership when the misfiring started. They had it for 5 days, but only replaced the lifters in Bank 1 and a bent pushrod. No damage to the cam. I was really hoping they would have done them all. My lease is up in May and I was planning on buying the truck, but now I feel like i might be buying a ticking time bomb.

my 23 - 5.3, went in yesterday, they think a bent push rod, 11k miles, lets see how this goes. I do not have AFM, on the Custom......

Sorry to hear that. Mine started with the trans shifting hard on the highway. Parked it and shut it off. When I started it back up the heavy tapping and audible misifiring started. I didn't really drive it very far in that condition, so damage to the cam was avoided. If they're replacing any lifters, ask them to do both banks if they can. I didn't know they only replaced half of them until I arrived to pick it up, which was 150 miles away. Leaving it there any longer wasn't an option. The rental to get home and back to pick it up already put me $650 in the hole. I really love this truck but that Duramax 3.0 is sounding pretty good right now!

I really like the 3.0 Duramax in our Yukon. Not available in 21 when I bought my TB.

So how do you know if you have a vehicle that is affected by the lifter issue or are they all affected? I recently purchased a 2021 5.3 L82 without dfm. 22,000 miles. Apparently this truck originated in Canada because when I search the original window sticker it's in French and listed to a Canadian dealer. Now after purchasing I'm reading all these issues with lifters and getting a bit nervous. Thanks for reading

I finally got my truck back this morning. Was in the shop a little over a month. All new lifters, and new cam shaft. Paid about 1k in rentals for the month, and got a bill for almost 7k. Few bucks short, talked them down to 6200 for the repair. Rough Month. Truck ran well. I have the standard 1 year or 12k mile warranty on the repair. I’ll be at 12k in like 4 months. They offered me a good deal on a trade in. Zero for the repair and 20k for trade, I still owe 6k. I didn’t like the new monthly payments no matter how much I played with the numbers. Better to just repair it for me right now. Not the greatest experience. I did get corporate involved. I used this number 1-866-790-5600. I asked for financial assistance… don’t think they really did anything honestly. But they do call the dealer directly and speak to them.

when my lifter failed I had zero warning, when it goes it goes. There’s no tell tale sign that something is wrong. I was just going down the highway and then bam, it was done

I still reported my issue to them. Figured the more people the file this issue might be for the better. If I was towing something upgrade when my failure happened, safety definitely would have been an issue. My power loss was very substantial

When I picked up my truck today I asked them a few questions. One was about the failure rate of the AFM lifters… they do tend to fail more often, but lifters still fail on the non AFM lifters, and that even if you did the delete on the lifters and turned AFM off, the lifters still will eventually fail. It’s a part problem overall.
